If you’re suffering from a clogged sink with slow draining water see our guide below to have your pipes cleared in no time.
Step One
Leave any water currently in the sink to drain away (or as much as possible).
Step Two
Pour a chemical drain cleaner down the sink. Alternatively you can use half a cup of white distilled vinegar mixed with three heaped tablespoons of baking soda. Leave this solution for an hour.
Step Three
Rinse with a slow flow of warm-hot water. If the water flows freely then the blockage is cleared. If not repeat steps one and two.
Step Four
If water remains backed up or slow draining, fill the sink with more water, then take a plunger and place the suction cup over the plughole to cut off the air. Pump it up and down to try and dislodge any debris, and the water volume will wash this away.
Step Five
If the blockage is particularly stubborn the next option is to remove the u-bend underneath the sink.
To do so first: Place a bucket under to catch any water or falling debris.
Secondly: Unscrew the pipe which can be usually done by hand, and scrape out or food deposits, fat and other blockages.
Thirdly: Wash out the u-bend in another sink or outside tap and screw back in place.
You should now find your pipes are free flowing and blockage free.
