Simple things that you can do around your home or business can save upto hundreds of pounds a year. See below for the easiest ways of saving energy:
- Switch off lights when leaving a room!
- Turn off or unplug appliances at night rather than leaving on standby
- Don’t leave items such as camera’s, portable video games, ipods, laptops and phones on charge for longer than necessary
- Turning your thermostat down by 1 degrees can save up to £40 per year
- Try to reduce 40 degree washes to 30. Or use the ‘economy wash’ option
- When boiling water in a kettle only use as much you need
- Make sure your radiators are not obstructed by curtains or furniture and turn the radiators down in the rooms you don’t use as often
- Don't leave the central heating on when your out for the day, turn it off or use your timer to come on when you know you'll be in
- Locate your freezer away from oven and hobs so they use less energy keeping cool. Garages are ideal locations for freezers!
- Shut doors as you move through the house to keep heat in
